Shay Culberson has been with The Genesis Project since July. During her time here, she has shown a natural ability to relate to our boys and provide a positive influence. Why she finds satisfaction during the most difficult times.
Working with boys with behavioral issues is challenging. Why do you keep coming back?
I keep coming back because I truly care for the boys. Every day is not always challenging. Yes, some days more than others, but it’s always a good feeling in my heart to get them calmed down and let them know their voices matter.
What do you hope to gain personally by working with our boys?
Patience! To learn to slow down and enjoy the little things. Also, to provide hope, love, and a sense of belonging to the boys.
What have you learned that you didn’t know before working at The Genesis Project?
I have the ability to be a positive influence in their lives -- that showing up mentally, physically, and emotionally can mean a lot to someone who has really never had that before.
When you describe The Genesis Project to people you know, what is the one thing you want them to know about our organization and our clients?
We truly are one big family for all the staff to every client we had, have, or get. We strive to give the boys the best care and to build on their strengths and support their weaknesses.
